about

3.
As we traveled through the making of With, constructing this soundtrack to a change of mind, a thinking process, inventing as we went along the very idea of a second Infantjoy record, we paid attention to a world where everything, ultimately, is connected.

We wanted to make a record that a listener would love if they loved, say, the first Infantjoy album, and also if they loved, say, sixty per cent of the music of Brian Eno, Fripp and Eno, Eno and Cluster, David Sylvian, Jimmy Guiffre, Brad Meldhau, Aphex Twin, Amon Tobin, Tangerine Dream, 808state, Matmos, Boards of Canada, Miles Davis, Cocteau Twins, Supersilent and, say, Herbert.

Also as we traveled - and With travels as much as Where The Night Goes, from points of departure to points of arrival, from ghost town to ghost town, from one state of mind to another - we listened out, in the way you can these days, to sounds running in some way parallel to our own, and we thought that we wanted to make an album you would love if you also loved, say, Isan, Handshake, Populous and Tuung and Lodge.

These were musicians and thinkers, dreamers and communicators, who we liked the sound of as we were With-ing. We asked them to join with us on our travels. They were stops on the journey we were making away from Satie and towards our own future.

Each time we ventured on part of our journey with new colleagues, the ghost of Satie grew frailer, the blood of Infantjoy grew stronger, and we crossed new borders, and swept and leapt through new landscapes.

We crossed bridges. We turned corners. Clouds raced across the sky. The sun shone. Rain poured. Wind blasted. The sea pounded. Then there was calm.
